It’s that time of year again. Did you make a New Year’s Resolution, and more important, did you keep it?
It’s never too late, and if an improved level of fitness is a goal for you, there are many ways to get fit with your dog.
I just watched the videos on the Canine Freestyle web page (www.canine-freestyle.org) Canine Freestyle is the dog sport that involves choreographing a performance with music. Some call it “heeling to music” but it’s much more–this involves a trusting relationship between a dog and handler.
I’ve known about Canine Freestyle for years, and what I’m most impressed with is how much more sophisticated the sport has become. These are not just weekend athletes; these dog owners have carefully planned fitness and exercise plans that give dogs (and humans) the strength to perform a Canine Freestyle routine.
If you’d like to have a look at a great Freestyle performance, take a look at Hall of Fame inductee Elaine Smith and her dog, Rhyme.

I loved the getting fit with your dog…I am not able to run, but we do ride together!
