If you’re in the New York City area on the weekend of October 16 and 17, you won’t want to miss MEET THE BREEDS at the Javits Center.
I attended last year’s event and have told anyone who will listen that this was one of my most favorite AKC events of all times. More than 160 breeds of dogs and 41 breeds of cats were present for the public (36,000 of them each day!) to come and interact with and enjoy.
What I liked about Meet the Breeds was that it wasn’t the typical dog-knowledgeable dog show crowd. There were hundreds of families with children who were interacting with breed experts and thoughtfully considering which breed would be the best for their family.
And, being a dog person, I really enjoyed taking a break to visit the cats. Hairless cats, Maine Coon cats, Wire-haired cats, and more. Who knew there was a wire-haired cat? The cats did agility demos. That’s right, the CATS did agility demos.

Children talked to me about animal behavior with many questions along the lines of “Why does my dog do this?”
This event is absolutely great. I can’t wait to be there again and I hope you’ll join us if you’re in New York.
